Victorian Art Nouveau Painting on FabricIve seen I dont know HOW many ordinary Victorian paintings on fabric: They are usually quite homespun with plain, rather boring, naive depictions of flowers, animals, etc. This one is about home, but its anything but homespun. I dont think Ive ever seen a vernacular painting like this done in art nouveau style before. Its both poignant and cleverly conceived: The artist depicts herself asleep, the whiplash curves of her hair blending into the ripples

save for one small area of insect damage at the top left corner of the back

Condition is good overall with some edgewear There is a dampstain on the bottom lefthand corner of the back cover which does not affect the pages inside

the arrangement most likely gimp worked by her mother

retitled here to make it less scandalous or menacing perhaps

beautifully composed Victorian stereocard of a widow in full mourning sitting in a cemetery

Some wear to the box on either side of the lid but otherwise in good shape with plenty of pins still inside

It is pure Aesthetic movement extravagance
