Herbie Fields - Harlem NocturneHerbie Fields was a New York based multi instrumentalist who played clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone. In the early 1940's he played with some of the best jazz musicians in the world Don Byas, Coleman Hawkins and Dexter Gordon, to name a few. While working a four week engagement at the Preview Lounge in Chicago in the spring of 1953, Fields recorded the classic sides presented here. Joining Fields, who played alto, tenor and baritone sax on the
variations or glosses on secular melodies (Josquin des Prez's Mille regretz for example) and liturgical music
She was honoured posthumously at the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York City four years later in 1977
