Quartz
Description
QuartzA beautifully crystallized specimen of Quartz from the lesser known Dawn of Day mine in San Juan County. The piece comprises several radiating groups of sparkling, lustrous, stubby Quartz crystals which are included with what, presumably, is some kind of iron oxide to create the soft orange internal color. Great condition overall and seldom seen on the market. Collected by Robert Stoufer in 2009. Specimen# CO712B163
Specimen # BOL711B91
The good luster combined with the translucence of the “balls” makes for an attractive little piece
almost organic appearance of the twins
A very small nick on the top of the piece is the only spot of damage that I can see on the display side (the piece is incomplete on the back where it detached from the pocket wall)
concludes from studies (as-yet unpublished paper 4/2011) that these and all San Juan quartz epimorphs apparently after Baryte are in fact after anhydrite”
This is a beautiful cabinet sized display specimen of this fine quality
Bolivian Ferberites (especially those from Tasna) are often and sadly underrated/overlooked
This locality is a bit obscure but is known to Colorado collectors as it has produced some of the most interesting and easily identifiable Calcites from anywhere in the state
almost skeletal appearance
This thumbnail specimen is a euhedral
the piece displays a strong red fluorescence
Pyrite and Chalcopyrite
